Kellie Martin in "Army Wives"

Time for a little nostalgia, Anna-style. When I was younger, I had a mad crush on Kellie Martin. (This is, of course, before I even knew it was a crush.) As a kid, I loved her in Troop Beverly Hills and as Becca in Life Goes On. But what made me officially fall in love with her? As random as it sounds, it was a made for tv movie called A Friend To Die For (though, when they re-air it on Lifetime, it’s now called Death of a Cheerleader). I don’t know why I was so drawn to her (maybe it’s because her character killed Tori Spelling’s character!), but after that, I was kind of on board with all things Kellie. I watched her in Christie and another TV movie gem, The Face on the Milk Carton. Oh yeah…that shit was compelling stuff. And for me, she revived ER and I bawled like a baby when they killed off her character, Dr. Lucy Knight, in an episode I’ll never forget. I stopped watching that show after that. They broke my heart. Bottom line: Kellie Martin is cute as a fuckin’ button and crazy talented to boot. Plus, she’s got these great big sparkling blue eyes that just…hell, I don’t even know. But good things happen when they light up the screen. (Was that cheesy? I’m think that was a bit cheesy.  You can call me on it, but I don’t care. I stand by my statement).

Now, I’ve never seen the Lifetime show Army Wives, but after finding out (a little late in the game, I admit) that Kellie, as new character, Army Captain Nicole Galassini, plays gay on the show? I’m sure as hell gonna start watching now. A lesbian character played by Kellie Martin?  My adolescent fantasies are coming true 15 years later!

Kellie plays an out member of the military, which is such a huge leap forward since the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.  Remember when Tasha had to go on trial for homosexual conduct in The L Word and then was forced to end her military career?  Remember how effed up that was? Well, Kellie’s character can pick up where Tasha left off. Like I said, I’ve never really seen the show, so I can’t say exactly what’s involved in her storyline, but I’m very curious to find out. Well played, Army Wives. You say “Kellie Martin” and “lesbian” and I come a runnin’.
